“Music is my outlet. I write with my heart and about things that people are really going through. When I write a song that my fans embrace as theirs, its like we’re experiencing the moment together. It’s a special feeling” ShaMain says.
But today, she sits eyes focused on the control board at Bridge Star Studios previewing tracks from her “The Evolution of Me” debut with her Bridge Star Music Group team, set to release in April 2014.
Raised outside of the nations capitol Washington D.C. in the close-knit city of Hyattsville MD, ShaMain — like so many of the greats before her — cultivated her voice singing around the house as a young girl finding inspiration from already iconic voices in Reggae, R&B and Pop played by her parents.
When asked who influenced her the most, with that signature smile she calmly rattles off an impressive two: Beyonce and naturally, Whitney Houston.
Born the daughter to the lead singer of “Frontline” a popular band based in Guyana at age 3 ShaMain moved to the United States and by age 5 began attending Thomas G. Pullen an arts magnet school in Landover, Maryland. There ShaMain studied the violin under the late Leslie Thomas and joined the school orchestra where she would hone her skills and expand her musical influences.
The recent release of “Play the Fool” Go-Go remix a record that achieved radio play on 93.9 WKYS, embedded an alternative Pop song in a Go-Go rhythm filled with energetic percussion and pulsating guitar riffs, a prime example of the influences the native sound has had on her music.
Her official debut single, “Beautiful” is a smooth anthem ripe with building hooks, sultry vocals and the type of pulsating guitar medley that will have fans hypnotized from the gate. The Soundtrick produced track is the perfect introduction to ShaMain the complete artist and an incredible tease to what’s in-store for the debut.
Songs like “Lover (would you be mine),” offer a sexy throwback to the hard electro dance groove of the 80s pop textures, while “Gimme,” which was penned by ShaMain and produced by heavy hitter Tone P, taps into a body moving Latin/Jazz groove and she gives you taste of Caribbean flavor on “Cry Mi A River” another shiner. Her vocal prowess is undeniable, a fresh voice to music that is transcendent and timeless, a beautiful meld of various musical genres.
It was in high school (Suitland High) while continuing to study the violin she began to sense a burning passion for singing emerging. This strong passion for singing took over in her sophomore year when through an internship program called “Hip-hop High” she found herself behind the microphone in Gudda Musik studios, recording her very first song “Emotional”. After graduating from Suitland High School ShaMain signed to Bridge Star Music Group in 2011 and began her road to history.
ShaMain released her first project in May of 2012 a mix-tape entitled “My Diary” which received rave reviews and over 4000 downloads in the first month. My Diary catapulted ShaMain onto the music scene, propelling a promotional tour to various venues & radio stations within the States. Now currently between the studio and the stage ShaMain’s silky vocal texture continues to gain her new fans everyday and is sure to soon win the hearts and souls of people worldwide.
